For some, today is the last day of summer. My best friend (who just happens to be my husband =) ) and I took a drive to Galveston Island today, which inspired me to blog about my favorite beach songs. Images of sun, sand, and bliss rise when you hear these tunes.

If your favorite song was missed, give it a shout-out in the comments.

  • Edge of the Ocean by Ivy (my favorite beach song right now…breathtaking)
  • Free by Zac Brown Band
  • In the Sun by She & Him
  • Bird of the Summer by A Fine Frenzy
  • The Heat by Anjulie
  • Fly Away by Black Eyed Peas
  • What I Wouldn’t Do by A Fine Frenzy
  • Golden by Jill Scott
  • Island in the Sun by Weezer

Sleigh Bells “Treats”

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I’m so excited! *girlish squeal*

After searching for exciting new music for the past month and coming up short, I finally stumbled across the group Sleigh Bells and their new debut album Treats. And pardon the pun, but what a treat!

Oh, Sleigh Bells, how do I describe thee? It sounds like somebody threw dirty rock, heavy beats, electonica, and a cheer leading team into a blender. Wikipedia labels them “noise pop.” Could it get any better? Upon first listen, the music seemed a little harsh to the ears, but it grew on me. It is now my official summer jam album.

Find out more about Sleigh Bells here and listen to their album here.

Tip: Do not listen to this on your headphones!! It is meant to be blasted in your vehicle with the windows down and the bass up. My favorite tracks: Kids, Rill Rill, Treats, and Riot Rhythm.

Tim’s Album of the Month - “Sound of Madness”

I know Liz is the music maestro on here, but I have so many good picks myself that I couldn’t hold it in any longer, hope you don’t mind Liz!

Sound of Madness is Shinedown’s latest release, and has catapulted the Jacksonville, Florida band back in the limelight that they quietly slid from a few years ago.

Every now and then an album comes along with an almost perfect list of tracks; and of course, for everyone, these albums are different…for me, it’s Metallica’s black album in 1991 or AC/DC’s Back in Black in the 80’s.  Shinedown’s Sound of Madness is, in short, that good.

With several singles already released and getting airplay such as the title track “Sound of Madness”, “Breaking Inside”, “If You Only Knew” and “Devour”, Shinedown is back in a big way; check out the album here and enjoy!

Let me be frank: I have not found any great new music lately that inspires me to post. I am sad! So my question is, am I missing something? Have you found a great new artist or song recently that you would like to share? Please post in the comments section and help me out!

So for my randomness: I have fallen in love with a few songs lately that are not “new,” but they are new to me! So in the meantime, I would like to share those with you:

“The Wire” by Drew Halcomb & the Neighbors

“Loving You” by Paolo Nutini

“Pretend” by Lights

“New Shoes” by Paolo Nutini

“Maybe Tomorrow” by Stereophonics

Track of the Week: Loving You, Loving Me

If you’re looking for music to make your woman swoon, look no further than crooner Dave Barnes‘ latest EP, You, the Night & Candlelight. I have been hooked on Dave’s heart-melting voice since I heard my other fave Dave song, “On a Night Like This.”

The Track of the Week, “Loving You, Loving Me” is a knee-weakening lighthearted love song. In fact, just do yourself a favor and download his entire EP.  Enjoy here and let me know if you agree.
